Agencies, Developers - Introducing Our Flash API

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Attention Agencies and Developers, we are officially announcing the introduction of our new Flash API.  This is a perfect solution for interactive agencies or web development shops that have internal Flash developers and want complete control over the front-end design and user experience of their contest site.

With our Flash API you can leverage all of our back-end functionality for user-generated video / photo / essay contests.  This allows you to easily include user registration and login, video or photo upload, user voting or rating, commenting, sharing features, screening tool, search, and reporting!  No need to set up your own database or write code for the functionality we can already provide you.

This is a nice example.  http://cliffyourride.autotrader.ca/ The interactive agency for AutoTrader.ca built the entire site in Flash and simply made calls to our back-end via our API.

Photo Contest for Shutterfly

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

The submission period for the Shutterfly Birthday Celebration Photo Contest ends tomorrow, March 31, 2010.  Voting begins April 1.  So far there are over 27,000 submissions!  But there is still time for you to enter.  Users can upload photos from their computer or import photos from their Shutterfly photo albums or Facebook photo albums.  This makes for a very easy entry into the contest.  Existing Shutterfly users can simply log in with their Shutterfly account.

Shutterfly also promoted the contest on their Facebook Fan Page with a custom Tab that tells users about the contest and allows them to click to enter or view and vote.  Users must “Become a fan” of the Shutterfly Facebook Page in order to “unlock” the contest buttons on the Tab.  This is a Facebook-approved method to bypass the Facebook Promotion Guidelines and the associated media buy.

On the contest site new registrations are also required to become a fan of the Shutterfly Facebook Page in order to enter.  By our own count, Shutterfly has seen an increase of about 12,000 fans since the promotion began.

Anyone that enters the contest is also presented with a unique coupon code for redemption on the Shutterfly.com site.

Social Media Gallery for Prismacolor

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

In collaboration with the folks at DraftFCB we have built our second version of the Prismacolor online artist gallery.  It looks fantastic and has some really cool new features like Tips & Techniques where artists can share their expertise with the community.  There is an Events section where the community can see what art events are coming to their area or add events of their own.  The main page of the gallery pulls in recent activity.  And all artists get their own Portfolio that showcases their submissions, catalogs their tips & techniques, shows their fans, and allows other users to become a fan.

Prismacolor is doing an outstanding job of leveraging the user-generated content to promote sales of their products.  When viewing product details on the Prismacolor site we are dynamically feeding in artist’s submissions that were created using the particular product.
